Liz Jameson grew up in Sussex and has always been inspired and enchanted by the Sussex landscape.
After graduating from Jesus College, Cambridge with a MA in Classics, Liz lived and worked in London, New York and California where she was particularly influenced by the American Abstract Expressionists such as Diebenkorn and Rothko. Their focus on light, textures and a strong use of colour to convey real feelings and actual places in a semi-abstract way have had a marked influence on Liz’s work and her modern interpretation of the classic landscapes in front of her.
Her method is to work and rework the canvas using oils and sometimes enamels, attempting to capture the changing light and colours of the landscape, building a rich layering of colour that shimmers and changes appearance like the natural light and colour that inspired the work.
Liz has shown her work in the Eton Art Gallery, The Brighton Fishing Quarter Gallery, The Brighton Festival, Sundial House in Brighton and has a collection of original oils on display in Strand, commissioned by the London Law Firm Corker Binning (http://www.corkerbinning.com). She has a permanent display at Riverside Art in Lewes, East Sussex.
